Cheyenne is a 12 yr old Appaloosa mare. She is
very laid back, the kind of horse you could not ride for 6 months
and then jump on her back again. She is an easy going trail horse,
will go over bridges, through water, through brush, you name it.
Nothing seems to spook her. She does need a patient farrier to work
with her. Not that she is mean or uncooperative, but her front
hooves were damaged from neglect and have never been the same since,
she 'toes in' with both fronts and they are quite flat. She IS
sound, but has 'ouchy' days once in a while, especially when the
ground is frozen. She loves kids and is good around little ones. She
has given numerous trail rides to beginner adults (people that have
NEVER ridden in their lives) with not a single problem. She would
not be good for speed events i.e: barrels, poles, keyhole, or for
jumping because of her front feet. But she is a wonderful companion
and a great trail horse. She is wary of trailers, which is really
her only vice, and does not like to be tied up for an extended
period of time. She does need a teeny bit of work on standing still
while mounted, she tends to try and walk away, but will not do this
if someone is holding her. She is a very easy keeper, only requiring
a handful of grain every day to keep her from getting jealous of
everyone else! She holds weight very well and does not need to be
blanketed during the winter. She has no health problems or behavior
problems. She has never kicked, bitten, bucked, reared, or anything
like that at all. She rides bareback or in an english, western, or
australian saddle. I have been using a sidepull or bitless bridle on
her because she seems to respond better to cues this way than with a
bit. A hackamore would also work just fine. She knows how to lunge,
will do lead changes most of the time automatically, and has a nice
easy western jog. All in all, this girl is just as good as gold and
would love to be your new trail buddy! The ONLY reason she is being
reliquished is that her current adopter is moving across the
country. |
