Troy was able to ride
Laky today in our round pen. Even with the rain we got last night
and the soft footing in the round pen, she was very surefooted the
entire ride. She is indeed an OTTB who will need retrained by an
experienced trainer/rider. She has insecurities and prefers to be
with other horses, although she loves human companionship and is the
first one to the gate when all of the horses are called in. She will
stand in the field for a bath and is awesome but unsure when removed
from her herd.
Don't mistake Laky's
pictures for a wild, crazy horse - she's a girl who just likes to
have fun!! She leads, grooms and bathes just great. She
is a sweetheart who loves attention and will come to you when you
whistle and call her name. We hope to get her ridden soon and
will update more then!
Laky got to go out in the
round pen today to let off some steam. It was a little bit muddy but
that didn't faze Laky one bit! She enjoyed running in the mud, but
eventually settled down. After she got tired of playing in the mud,
we let her out in a small area to graze for a bit and she definitely
enjoyed the nice green grass. Watch for more updates as we continue
to work with this pretty girl!
Laky is a 12 yr old TB mare
who raced as a 2-3 year old. She suffered a knee injury and was
retired from racing. For the last 5 years she has been used as a
broodmare. Laky loves to be groomed and is very friendly, though she
does like to walk quickly. She behaves perfectly, she just thinks
she has some place to be! She leads,
ties, trailers and clips. Laky lived in Florida until Jan '08
but wintered well here in Indiana.
